To Whom It May Concern,

We notice that you have included the Harry Potter book in your catalog listing of children’s books.  (Perhaps it has been there for a long time, but we only noticed it in your most recent catalog mailing).

As the parents of four children, we would like you to know we strongly object to this story of a boy in England who studies and uses witchcraft and sorcery.  Young children and teens are naturally drawn to such figures as “heroes” and often try to emulate their actions and choices.

Your choice to offer Harry Potter as an example to our children supports the notion that witchcraft and magic are harmless.  There is no truth in this presumption.  In the mid-1970s, the popular movie “The Exorcist” enticed countless youth to investigate these unusual metaphysical phenomena, only to discover the devastating truth that demon-possession is real.  To the detriment of their lives and health, many of those people started to dabble in witchcraft, magic and fortune telling, and now many are trapped in these harmful practices, which are degrading and damaging to our society.

Today, the Harry Potter series does no less than expose people to this and similar dangers.  Your offering of the Harry Potter book supports this attack, especially on our nation’s children and teens.

We strongly urge you to withdraw this book from your catalog and stock.  We urge you to take this action now, without hesitation.  The physical, mental and spiritual well being of our children and young people, who are the future of our country, is at risk because of your actions and choices.

Sincerely,

Back
