November 2001, No. 7

From Jim Au’s journal, excerpt dated September 14, 2001
…While it is good, even refreshing to see so much show of patriotism in a few days time, there is a more serious context in which we find ourselves as “one nation under God”. We are truly one nation under God, for God is the Author of our nation, its Founder and Foundation. But do we act and think as a nation under God? If we choose somehow to not be a nation under God anymore, then we violate our own foundation. In essence, we violate our very identity, which is not like clothing fashion where one can suit up this way one day, then change to something else the next day, as we observe the descent of the American worldview from that of God-fearing and God-pleasing to that of self-pleasing, pleasure, convenience, luxury, live-like-kings, [the] get-rich-quick mentality that plagues us today. The Word that we are bound to, we cannot change, unless we decide foolishly that we should no longer be one nation under God, in which case we must in truth fend totally for ourselves, lose all the rights, blessings and protection that come from God, because He extended these riches to us as a nation when we fully agreed to His terms at our founding. Today, the god “freedom” is worshipped, but not the one true God who gives true freedom. The only true freedom comes when we are fully owned by the Author of all creation, and being fully owned means being fully submitted…

—From Jim Au, IMM president and founder
These are exciting times we live in. We have seen history in the making before our very eyes—on the television screen, in newspaper headlines—leaving enduring impressions in our minds. What is the Lord trying to tell us through the events we’ve witnessed in recent days, especially the shocking and tragic events of September 11, 2001?

Some have noted this as our 911 wake up call. Indeed, we have been awoken, as if to a day and age very distant from the life we once knew only a day prior to these events. God is in control of history. The earth still belongs to Him. Where then are we headed?

The end of the journey we look forward to is this: being in the presence of the Lord, no longer separated from Him by the veil of the darkness of this world. From where we are now to where we’re going, God assures us it will be a road full of bumps and blessings.

May the bumps remind us we’re simply not there yet, and that we may have to make many adjustments in our attitude, habits and general direction along the way. And may the blessings remind us that God loves us so much! Let every blessing He gives remind us of that truth. And may we become the kind of people who can truly reflect His light to our desperate world. Enjoy a merry season of Thanksgiving and joyous celebration of the Lord Jesus’ timely and humble Advent.

New Website Debut
I’m very pleased to announce the opening of our website. This is the debut of an ongoing project that is the result of years of planning and strategy making. It is an adaptable and cost-effective means for us to communicate our vision and message to the nation.

What makes it special are the words and graphics that first greet its viewers. The opening page is critical. And that opening page will continue to change over time.

So what is on the opening page? Our first opener displayed an image that should be readily familiar to anyone: Harry Potter’s mug. Harry is a fictional character, the subject of British author J.K. Rowling’s best-seller book series. The reason for featuring him in our site is to warn people that he engages in practices that are abominable to and condemned by God, namely witchcraft, magic and sorcery.

The website debuted on October 31, 2001, the highest day in the year of celebration for witches, warlocks, pagans and all practioners of Wicca, the religion of the Celts that is essentially witchcraft. While we know this day as All Hallows Eve, or Halloween, to Wiccans it is the day when they participate to the fullest in their rituals and blood sacrifices—often animal and human. This is the stuff that inspired Harry Potter, and this is no fantasy! It is part of the grueling spiritual war that we’re called to fight in the name of Jesus (see Ephesians 6:10-17).

The website was announced by e-mail to a group of around two hundred persons and families around the world. Initial response to the site was very positive. Some even requested help and advice.

This presentation on Harry Potter will be archived in the online gallery so visitors can continue to view it. In its place another presentation will be shown, and —not long after—archived, and so on. The subject matter of these will vary, covering issues of spiritual and social concern to our nation and world. Our goal is to have a fresh opener at least monthly.

The best way to find out is to see the IMM website for yourself. If you don’t have Internet access, consider using a friend’s computer or the public library. If you like what you see, please help us by telling your friends, enemies, family, church and coworkers about this site. No matter who dials in, we aspire to have something to say, whether challenging, provocative, inspiring or even hilarious. Check it out!

There Were No Napkins to Write On
The idea started as casual conversation in the car one year ago, September 2000. The setting was one of America’s most picturesque places, the Columbia Gorge east of Portland, Oregon. My missionary friend from India, Glenn Cunningham, was on his first visit to the United States when the beauty of the autumn scenery all about us enthralled him. He exclaimed, “You should put this in the Internet. Let everyone see how great is our God who made this!”

We batted the idea around for a while after stopping to visit Oregon’s most visited tourist site, the Multnomah Falls. Unlike the time when IMM started as an idea over lunch at Burger King and everything had to be drawn or scribbled on napkins, there were no napkins to write on. Nevertheless, I batted the idea around in my head and on paper for the next year. Over time, the Lord inspired many ideas that could be pursued for using the Internet to proclaim messages of truth, hope, warning and challenge.

These were the quiet beginnings of what is now IMM’s IV Project. IV commonly stands for “intravenous”, which refers to a medical IV used to provide nourishment or medicine to an ailing patient. Conceptually, the IMM project will serve as a kind of intravenous, providing spiritual food or thought for the souls and spirits of people everywhere.

For this purpose, IV stands for Internet Visualization. That which we write and publish will also be illustrated graphically, and sometimes accompanied by sound and music. Here then is the power and advantage of multimedia and the Internet—to which millions have access in our nation, especially children and youth. For this we depend on the Lord to inspire the ideas and images, ones that will persuade people to look further than the opening page to find out what the message is all about.

Children’s Art Online
Another permanent feature of the IMM website is the Children’s Gallery. Art chosen for this gallery is special because of the message or intent contained in the original works. Most of all, it is special because it’s exclusively children’s art.

Now, we need more art! Please pass this notice on to children you know from ages three to twelve. We’re looking for original drawings or paintings in any art medium, based only on the following themes: Creation vs. evolution, world missions, helping the Third World, poverty, hunger, Bible truths, occult, abortion, euthanasia, gambling, drugs, gangs, abuse, violence, addictions, sex, TV, movies, bad language, loneliness, relationships, community and family. Whatever theme is chosen, the idea is to show the world the light, truth, love, acceptance and freedom we have come to know in Jesus Christ—He is the good news!

Visit the children’s section of IMM’s website to get a sense for what might hang in this gallery. We accept scanned images sent by e-mail or original artwork sent by post (to be returned to the sender insured). Artwork will be selected based on quality and subject matter, entirely at IMM’s discretion. This is a chance for your child’s artwork to be seen online, viewable from anywhere in the world! Contact us with any questions about this.

Audio CD Available - FREE
A stirring message for America has been recorded and is now available on audio CD. This is a one-hour talk by missionary Glenn Cunningham of India who spoke during his second visit to the United States, only twelve days after the September 11 attack. This message has vital prophetic importance to our nation. Contact us to obtain a free CD. You only have to pay postage to obtain more than one copy. Donations are welcome.

Missions Focus Recaptured
For many years, I have been the acting people group advocate for the two million unreached Meitei of Northeast India. Finally, my vision for these graceful people is housed in a website called Hope for Manipur and is found in the IMM website at http://immpact.net/HFM. This site will contain articles, letters, photos and ideas for prayer and action to spiritually benefit and uplift the Meitei people. Note this site is still under construction as of this writing.

Prayer Needed!
As this media ministry goes forward once more, the spiritual attacks against my family and me have increased disproportionately. We are in need of your prayer covering! Please let us know you’re praying for us, that we’re in this pursuit together. Your prayers provide us with great encouragement and God’s blessing and protection to carry on. Pray also that I may receive creative inspiration and timely revelation of truth, to publish when and where it’s needed.
