July 2002, No. 8

—From Jim Au, IMM president and founder
Hey, I’m taking the plunge! Yes, it’s summer time, and I will probably get soaking wet outdoors at some point or another — but it’s a different plunge of which I’m speaking. From here on, I will make this newsletter shorter, publish it on a bi-monthly basis instead of three times a year, and endeavor to include more photos to show you what’s going on. I admit it has been too long since the last newsletter, and that does merit explanation.

During this past half-year, we faced a lot of sickness in our family. Some of that was due in part to Daniel’s heart condition (see sidebar). But for the most part, this has simply been one year of sickness for us. For me personally, I have been struggling with bronchitis during winter and spring for three years running. In spite of that, I am encouraged by some of the things that have been accomplished since November 2001.

I’ve been able to publish several presentations on the Internet covering a variety of topics. The one that received the most feedback from readers is about abortion. January 22 marks the anniversary of the Roe vs. Wade decision that legalized abortion in the USA, so it became my goal to publish this one coinciding with that date. My interest in and knowledge of the subject had been minimal until I married Trudy. With this publication, I began my own commitment to not remain silent any more on this lethal issue. Future IMM projects will certainly address this again in yet more creative and vocal ways.

Other topics that I published online include a response to the popularity of the Prayer of Jabez book (not a response to the book itself, but to its popularity!), a biblical critique of Harry Potter, a look at Creation and Evolution (try to guess which side I took), a prophetic message for America by my friend Glenn Cunningham of India, and the need for charitable giving to touch the many countries and peoples of the world whom we would deem enemies, especially in light of September 11. To view these presentations online, see http://immpact.net

A blessing I received in the year 2000 was being fully sponsored to attend the Christian Management Association’s convention in Palm Springs. This year it was in Anaheim, so I attended again, taking with me our youngest daughter Clarissa, who was three years old then. She and I attended daylong seminars and workshops on ministry strategy, financial development and legal issues for the Internet. I learned much for IMM’s benefit, and Clarissa was an angel. On our drive home to Oregon, we had to cross over 70 miles of snow-packed roads.

After the convention, my focus turned to the upgrade of the IMM studio. This has been an ongoing project since 1999, and now the research and design for this is complete as of April 2002. Once the media production equipment is assembled and configured, studio operation will go into full effect again. The final stage will be the construction of new studio space in the basement, to be dubbed “Studio III” (I will explain the name next time). Compared to the former office (44 square feet), the new office is planned to have more than twice the floor space and will be wired to the old office, which for a few years will be Daniel’s bedroom (!). I feel confident a major portion of the studio upgrade will be completed this year. So stay tuned.

God has been blessing IMM in spite of the many logistical challenges. Please pray for us to complete our studio so we’ll be able to move on to new production work. We need our health to be improved as well.
